Nicola Hilson

Nicola is the Deputy Chief Executive of Skills for People, a voluntary organisation which supports people with learning disabilities to speak up and take more power and control over their own lives. Prior to this role Nicola was a consultant for Paradigm leading on the New Partnerships Project which supported local authorities to give out their first individual budgets. Nicola also co-developed Paradigm’s Brokerage For Change programme which has explored different approaches to developing support brokerage.
Nicola has a keen interest in Self Directed Support, Brokerage and Person Centred Approaches. She has a particular passion for helping families to plan with their relatives and figure out self directed support. She recently travelled across Canada and North America researching approaches to brokerage and returned inspired by PLAN Canada to help people develop social networks. Nicola lives in Newcastle with her partner where she spends her time getting out on her bike and trying to get better at yoga.
