Terry Langton:

Consultant

Terry is a new addition to Paradigm as a part-time consultant.  Terry comes from a family who have fostered children with learning disabilities and grew up seeing the challenges families face as well as the richness of having an inclusive family.  He has always been passionate about people fitting in and getting on with life and relationships.

Terry has worked with numerous people across the North West in lots of different settings.  His experience ranges from direct support for people who have complex support needs to Senior Management in a leading Support Provider.  Terry has planned alongside people who were considered complex to maximise their opportunities to connect with their communities.  Having lead inclusion projects Terry understands the importance of friends in peoples’ lives and also the barriers to making that happen.

His work experience includes Direct Support Worker, Team Leader, Development Manager and Supported Living Manager for different providers.  Having implemented many different systems to improve effectiveness of providers Terry is passionate about people getting a good deal from providers as well as how providers can learn from the people they support.  He strongly believes providers have a place in the new Individual Budget scene alongside more imaginative support settings.

Working for KeyRing for two years in Liverpool Terry supported many people to advocate for themselves and others through Partnership Board Membership and self advocacy agencies, whilst also co-chairing the Housing Sub-Committee. Terry’s experience of supporting people to improve their own lives and self determine through sometimes difficult and challenging times has given him a no nonsense and pragmatic approach to working with people.

Terry is in his final year of a Business and Economics Degree and is using this to explore the meaning of people who use services becoming consumers in an emerging market. He’s married to Jo and has three children, a large dog, two chickens and two cats and a small house!
