The Gr8 Support Movement

Paradigm is creating the ‘go to’ national learning and support network for Direct Support Staff and Personal Assistants who are passionate about their work, and aspire to be the very best at what they do.

The network, facilitated by Sally Warren, Lucy Hurst-Brown and Jackie Downer:
• connecting support workers across the country to share ideas, challenges and action
• with a powerful message that support workers themselves can create new solutions
• sharing current practice
• keeping people informed of local and national stories
• focusing on ‘the how’ we work, what excellence looks like when values are evidenced in practice
• that will be vibrant, different, inspiring and challenging for all involved.

Supported Loving – A national network for sharing, learning and action

We regularly hear about support and creative initiatives across the country focusing on relationships and love BUT there is no national focus on sharing the work, the resources and connecting people to share ideas and develop their work. We are committed to connecting people, ideas and action!

Working alongside Claire Bates (Choice Support) and Michelle McCarthy (Tizard Centre) we are launching this national network to ensure we share, learn and act together accross the country.   To see info about the Supported Loving national network click here:

In the Thick of It – A Personalised Programme for Today’s Leaders

Are you facing the toughest time that you can remember during your career? All the management theory tells us that excellent leadership is a crucial ingredient if we want to get excellent results. Austerity has brought with it enormous additional challenges for leaders in social care; never has there been a time in our sector when great leadership is as important!

At Paradigm, we exist to support organisations that work with people with learning disabilities in their role as catalysts for real and positive change. Right now we find ourselves required to deliver much more with far fewer resources.
We know that inspiring and effective leadership is one of the keys to meeting this challenge. That’s why we are stepping into this space at this time.

You may be new to your role and would value someone helping you to work through your challenges, or equally much ‘longer in the tooth’ and would value some fresh inspiration.
Either way, we are here to help with a brand new Paradigm coaching offer.

You can set to work on your issues with one of three highly experienced sector leaders, who are still out there ‘in the thick of it’ wrestling with the same challenges as you.

For the fourth year this Paradigm leadership programme focuses on the leadership of inclusion.

Using the building blocks of managing meaning, emotional wellbeing, dissent, attitudes, curiosity and continuous development, we will help you empower yourself and empower others.

During this program each participant will be encouraged to explore their role in securing a future where people are supported to live ordinary and valued lives.

“It’s About Everyone” – A workshop and webinar series with Getta Life and Paradigm

As part of our work sharing Inclusive Learning and Innovation we are focusing on how to create and sustain organisations that are truly focused on each of the individuals it supports. Paradigm, in partnership with Getta Life, is exploring how new support agencies can be born and how larger organisations can adopt and adapt innovations from effective and creative small enterprises such as Getta Life.

The programme includes an introductory workshop, 8 webinars and a final workshop (and a copy of  the new book ‘We’ve Got A Life’) to reflect and plan what next for participating teams.  The cost for a team of four if £960.  We encourage teams  to include someone supported, a family member, a senior manager etc.

Achieving compliance with the Care Act – Community Living’s 7th legal seminar led by Belinda Schwehr, LLM

Too few councils are meeting their obligations under the Care Act. For example, failure to provide independent advocates means many people are left without support to challenge council decisions about their care.

Belinda will cover legal and illegal cuts to budgets or services in the context of revision of care plans, funded advocacy, carers’ right to support/services, and charging developments, particularly in relation to publicly funded transport services.

This is your opportunity to hear from an expert in social care law. As the whole day is led by Belinda there is plenty of opportunity for discussion of individual problems.
