Connecting people, ideas and action.

We love the variety of the work we are invited to facilitate.   Our work is driven by our desire to ensure good ordinary lives for all.   How do we do this?  By connecting people, ideas and action!

Supported Living

Every week our team, including eight associates who are Experts by Experience, travel the country meeting a wide range of people.  Recently we have been:

– facilitating Planning Live events to support young people and families to start thinking about their Education, Health and Care plans

– co-producing new Sexuality and Relationship training, policies and procedures in a South London College

– starting a project with self advocates and supporters focusing on reducing the loneliness faced by many through developing connections, confidence   and knowledge in relation to relationships, love, emotions and sexuality.  This film ‘Would like to meet’  from Gloucestershire Voices was powerful for part of the first session

– facilitating our Creating Positive Cultures project with ten agencies.  This includes hosting webinars with John O’Brien (see the conversation here) and Christina Schawbenland

– supporting and chairing the Learning Disability Alliance to ensure we all work together to ensure the people with learning disabilities are truly listened to

– celebrating the completion of this years Inclusive Leadership Lab hosted by us with Nan Carle and preparing for the next Lab

– facilitating values based training with a wide range of agencies…the foundations of good support!

– hosting Reach Support for Living action learning sets

– reviewing support in a service following a tragic serious case review

A particularly challenging and exciting piece of work has been working to co-produce a 5 year Joint Learning Disability Strategy for a Health and Well-being Board.

Last week self-advocates, family members and supporters presented the Strategy to the Board. Getting time at the meeting was a challenge BUT the response has been amazing!

A couple of comments reported back to us….

A self-advocate who presented today said that she “felt respected within this meeting and feels that this was such a positive step from everybody involved in this amazing piece of work.”

A GP and lead of a Clinical Commissioning Group said that as a result of participating in the co-production of this Strategy, he is now much clearer that “Commissioners should commission things that count and not necessarily things that can be counted.”

And…

One person supportive of strategy requested some flexibility in implementation. The Directors response – ‘We’d agree to some flexibility re: implementation, but not on achievement of vision.’

Now for the implementation of the Strategy and the ACTION.   Good ordinary lives for all as the aim,  just NOT negotiable!

We look forward to moving forward with the work above and meeting new people as new connections lead to new ideas and action.
