Jackie Downer (MBE)

Jackie has been working with Paradigm as an associate for the past 5 years.  For decades Jackie has been active in the self-advovacy movement pushing for people with learning disabilities to be heard, to have control over their own lives and to be valued for who they are.

Jackie is passionate about supporting people to ‘think outside of the box’ and pushes people to not just talk but WALK THE WALK. Jackie will challenge all people to be creative, to value who people are and to act to make things better remember that “we are all different but all human.”

In recent years Jackie has worked alongside Sally and other team members facilitating the Ordinary Life Network and on a large project designing and facilitating workshops with self-advocates and supporters in relation to Love, Relationship, Sex and Emotions.

Over the years Jackie has become a key member of our small team and regularly calling Sally (MD) to ask ‘Well…are we really making a difference? How do we know? What can we do to do better – we’re not getting any younger you know!’ A really important team member!
